Sound damping, partic. in structures contg. car stereo loudspeakers, is provided by a mass of visco-elastic polymer which can be sprayed or otherwise coated onto one side of a structure to damp vibration and resonance. The mass is pref. of polyvinylpropionate with an inorganic filler, and is applied to the inside of a vehicle body, pref. as a layer 1 mm thick. Alternatively, an adhesive acrylic polymer may be sprayed, brushed, rolled or spread between two sheets to form a sound- damping composite sheet which can be used in installation of car loudspeakers. The method of providing the sound damping is also claimed. |
