A method for making fatty acid esters from oil-containing seeds comprises the step of continuously transesterifying the seeds in a dual screw device, while simultaneously subjecting the seeds to a mechanical shearing treatment in the presence of an alcohol and a transesterification catalyst; wherein the alcohol proportion is adjusted so as to be in the range of 0.3P to 3P, with P being the alcohol proportion corresponding to the stoichiometry of the transesterification reaction: glyceride + alcohol } ester + glycerol.
