The device includes the reference value measuring module (1), a parameter input module (4) and an output module (6). The device is connected to four active conductors, part of an electrical circuit where series faults are to be detected. All of the device modules are installed close to a point (A) along the circuit. The remote measuring module (2) is connected to the four conductors in a remote point (B). The measured current and voltage values are transmitted, via a transmission module (3), to a processing unit (5). The circuit parameters can be entered using a keyboard and a display, part of the input module. The circuit parameters are stored in the module memory and can be changed as the circuit evolves.
