Detecting ionising radiation emitted by a radioactive material using a suitable detector, comprises:(i) registering pulses using detector in a first work region where the pulse strength is dependent on the energy of a first set of particles forming a first type of radiation responsible for the pulses ; (ii) registering pulses with a strength above a threshold value (2); and (iii) when a value corresponding to a certain level of pulses with a strength above the threshold value are registered then registration of these pulses, using the detector, in a second work region where the pulse strength is dependent on the energy of a second set of particles forming a second type of radiation. The device used in this method is also claimed. Preferably the first and second types of radiation are beta and alpha-radiation respectively. |
