Well-structurised black matrix in colour picture tube

The black matrix in colour picture tubes comprises a light-absorbing matrix (I) and a protective agent (II) for the matrix. (I) can be prepared from a positive photoresist composition, comprising a suspension containing compound(s) releasing gaseous compounds (in)directly on exposure to light, a black pigment and, as additives, suspension stabiliser, wetting agent and/or adhesion promoter. (II) can be prepared from a negative photoresist composition comprising a water-soluble organic polymer, a cross-linking actinic component, an alkyl silicate and water and has pH 6-7.5. Also claimed are the positive photoresist and protective agent compositions and the production of the black matrix.
