Headphones for multi-channel playback

The headphones (1) have at least one electrodynamic transformer (3) and a pair of headphone earpieces (2) in which the transformer (3) is arranged. The transformer (3) has an oscillating coil divided into at least two parts. A different audio channel signal is fed to each part of the coil. Each coil part is available via a signal lead (5,6,7,8). In another arrangement the transformer has at least two separate individual coils provided via separate leads. The headphones can be used to play Dolby (RTM) Surround sound. A main audio channel signal may be fed to the first coil part or individual coil and a surround channel signal may be fed to the other coil part or individual coil. The number of turns of each coil part or coil is preferably different to provide different weighting of the respective audio signals.
