<p>A vaginal insert (178) for delivering an agent to a urogenital tract in a patient. The patient has a vagina (26), and the vagina has a wall. The vaginal insert comprises a base member (180) sized to fit within the vagina. A fiber matrix (190) is operably connected to the base member. The fiber matrix is configured to swell upon wetting, thereby conforming to the contour of the vaginal wall when positioned in the vagina. The vaginal insert further comprises a tubular applicator (192) having inner and outer diameters. The outer diameter is sized for insertion into the vagina. The inner diameter is sized to receive the base unit (180) and fiber matrix (190) combination while the the fiber matrix is unswelled and to allow the base unit and fiber matrix combination to slide out of the applicator when the fiber matrix is swelled.</p> |
