The device has a fibre brake (5) with a fixed and a movable part (6,8), between which the fibre (1) is pulled and by which a frictional force is exerted on the fibre. The frictional force is adjusted by an actuator (13). A piezoelectric sensor (14) converts the force exerted on the sensor by the fibre into an electrical signal. The actuator is a deformable piezoelectric element connected to the sensor and a movable part to form a unit so that the deformation motion of the actuator is transferred to the movable part of the fibre brake and sensor.
