A drawer mechanism includes a frame for slidably supporting one or more drawers, at least one drawer slidably supported in the frame, which drawer has a front wall; and a handle located forward of the front wall of the drawer, the handle being adapted to engage the frame when the drawer is in a closed position, and to be located in its entirety close in to said front wall when the drawer is in a closed position. The handle is adapted to provide clearance for the fingers of a user forward of the front wall when the drawer is being opened. The handle includes two opposing spring-loaded J-shaped rods, which engage the frame when the drawer is in a closed position.
