Preparing higher endohedral fullerene(s) internally doped with rare earth metal

Endohedral Fullerenes internally doped with a metal atom are produced by making a hole in a graphite electrode, filling the hole with a metal compound and carbon. An arc is then struck between this electrode and another in a reduced pressure inert gas atmosphere and the carbon black thus formed is processed in known ways. The metal compound is an oxide or a boride. If an oxide is used then boron, boron carbide or boron nitride is also added.
