Process and catalyst for preparation of nitrous oxide

A process for preparation of nitrous oxide involves reacting ammonia with oxygen in the presence of steam using a copper-manganese oxide catalyst having diffraction angles measured by X-ray diffraction analysis of about 36 DEG , about 58 DEG and about 64 DEG . The catalyst is highly active and selective, has a long catalyst-lifetime, gives a non-condensible gas comprising nitrogen, oxygen and nitrous oxide which contains nitrous oxide in a high concentration. The process for preparation of nitrous oxide is such that formation of NOx as byproducts is reduced, and provides for stably recovering nitrous oxide.
