PURPOSE:To recognize the abnormality in image forming conditions and toner detecting function by constituting the title device in such a manner that either of a check mode to transfer a pattern to be detected to a transfer material and a copying mode to transfer the toner image formed on an image carrier but not to transfer the pattern to be detected can be selectively switched. CONSTITUTION:A mode selection switch 32 for selectively switching either of the check mode and the copying mode is connected to a CPU 27 and is so arranged that the switch 32 can be properly switched on, for example, an operation section. Namely, either of the check mode to transfer the pattern to be detected to the transfer material and the copying mode to transfer the toner image formed on the image carrier 1 but not to transfer the pattern to be detected can be selectively switched. Since the pattern to be detected can be transferred to the transfer material and can be visually observed, the abnormality in a detecting means 26 and the image forming process conditions is judged. |
