Construction of mullions and transoms

The structure accommodates flat plates or glass panes on a building facade or roof, each hollow profiled upright (12) having several lengthwise grooves (12A-C) in its front surface. Each hollow profiled crossbar (14) likewise has several such lengthwise grooves (14A-C) in its front surface. Where the crossbar butts against the upright, a connector (16) slides in one of its grooves and is lockable in position. Part of the connector engages in an opening in the upright. On connection of the latter and the crossbar a straight join is formed between them. There can be five grooves in both the upright and the crossbar, each comprising a third central groove and first and second ones situated symmetrically in relation to it, the second ones being adjacent to it.
