The lamp-holder (2), socket (4) has internal axial grooves (10) turning at the inner end at 90 degrees to form traps for the lamp-cap retaining pegs (8). The socket centre contact (12a), connected in the lamp-holder to one pole of the supply, is a bent metal leaf spring whose free end, lying transversely across the socket interior, meets the lamp-cap centre contact while the lamp is still being inserted. Continued insertion compresses the spring, which, if the bayonet fixing is not properly completed, ejects the lamp (6) from the socket. Alternatively, in these circumstances, the ejection is effected by a side contact (12b). This is a folded metal leaf, connected to the other supply pole, which encounters the lamp during insertion.
|
