PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide good cleanability and to prevent the flaw and excess damage of a magnetic head by imparting isotropicity in terms of strength and adequate pliability to a vapor deposited tape and metallic tape even if the shape of the magnetic head changes in use of these tapes. SOLUTION: This cleaning medium is formed by providing the surface of a nonmagnetic base with a lower coating layer mainly contg. nonmagnetic inorg. powder and binder and providing the surface of this layer with a cleaning layer contg. at least inorg. powder by ferromagnetic powder and binder. The thickness of the cleaning layer is 0.05 to 1.0μm, the thickness of the lower coating layer is 0.2 to 5.0μm, the thickness of the nonmagnetic base is 2.0 to 10μm and the total thickness of the cleaning medium is 4.0 to 14μm.
