PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an austenitic stainless steel wire having high hardness and nonmagnetism and excellent in machinability and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: This steel wire has a composition which consists of, by weight, <=0.15% C, <=1.00% Si, <=2.00% Mn, <=0.20% P, 0.15-0.20% S, 8.0-10.0% Ni, 17.0-19.0% Cr, 0.03-0.13 Nb, 0.001-0.004% B, 0.10-0.30% N, and the balance Fe with impurities and in which Nb(%)×N(%) is controlled to <=0.013.
