The beam comprises an upright portion (1) with horizontal end flanges (4), the bottom one of which supports a section of ceiling. The top T-section can have a flange narrower than that of the bottom one, and the two can be joined to each other so as to leave an intervening gap. Seen in their lengthwise direction, the sections can be joined together by components at alternate sides, these being fixed to their uprights (2), typically via joints (9) formed under pressure.
