When a vehicle is started on an uphill or the vehicle is running at low speed where a large torque is required, the engine 50 is operated at the operation point of high energy where the torque is large and efficient, and the large power is regenerated in excess over the consumed energy, and a battery 94 is charged by the large power. The charging by the large power is estimated by the run condition or the geographical information, and the residual capacity of the battery 94 is reduced in advance. As a result, the battery 94 can be prevented from being damaged by overcharging.
