PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sheet-like polarization element which has high light utilization efficiency and is free from the thermal deterioration of the polarization characteristic by the generation of absorption heat of a light source by converting the random polarized light of the polarization element for taking out only the polarized light in one direction from the random polarized light without utilizing the light absorptive dichromaticity, like the conventional polarized light plate to the polarized light of the one direction alone. SOLUTION: The slopes of the respective prisms of the prisms which are superposed alternately on each other to a right-angled triangular shape and are continuously worked are so inclined as to attain an angle near approximately a Brewster angle with respect an incident light source. The incident random polarized light is separated to P polarized light 11 and S polarized light 12 and thereafter, only the S polarized light 12 of the reflected light is converted to the P polarized light 13 via a half-wave plate 40 arranged on the respective prism faces parallel with the incident light. The transmitted P polarized light 11 and the converted P polarized light 13 are respectively taken out, by which the taking out of the linearly polarized light polarized to the one direction from the random polarized light without light loss is made possible. |
