The method comprises of uncoiling a steel strip (1), and manufacturing from a continuos process a spirally welded tube (6) with a diameter equal to the diameter of the drum to be manufactured. The pitch angle is set in dependency of the width of the steel strip. This is done under tension of an adjustable bending rolls (2,3) with driven bending rolls (4, 5), and the pitch is adjusted using a turntable. The method then cuts of from the spirally welled tube pieces with a length equal to the body length of the drum to be manufactured. The drum is them provided with lids on both of it's ends The coils may have a varying width and the can be processed without slitting by setting the pitch angle in dependency of each new width.
