PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp lighting device which uses common parts and stops the output of a discharge lamp lighting means if a discharge lamp is not installed. SOLUTION: When a discharge lamp lighting device is used for one lamp and either of filaments FLa, FLb is removed, the main course of an inverter circuit 1 is opened and oscillation of the inverter circuit 1 stops. When the device is used for two lamps and the filaments FL1a, FL2b are separated, the main course of the inverter circuit 1 is opened and oscillation of the inverter circuit 1 stops. When the filaments FL1b, FL2a are separated, the circuit is opened and thereby power is no longer supplied from a resistance R1 to resistances R2, R3, potential is lowered to L level at the point of connection between the resistances R2, R3, oscillation of a control circuit 2 is stopped, and the inverter circuit 1 stops oscillation. |
