The machine (10) is used for preparing material for improving soil, preparing foundations for roads etc. The machine has a tracked undercarriage (16) carrying a hopper (24) which receives lumpy material which can pass through a comminuting machine (22) and fall onto a broad flat upward facing conveyor belt (36) surrounded by a hood (38). The material falls off the end of this belt onto a milling device (44) with a rotating cutter roller (46). After passing the rotating cutter roller the material falls onto a conveyor on a long boom (48). The boom may be slewed to deposit the material over a wide area.
