The profiled wire, for use in carding machines, is composed of 0.9-1.5 wt% carbon, 1.0-2.0 wt% chromium with, if required, 0.3-0.9 wt% manganese and/or 0.2-0.6 wt% silicon together with iron with production impurities for the balance. The wire material, in one piece, is rolled, drawn and annealed.
