The tampon has a cylindrical, disc-shaped body with a diameter (D) of 5 cm and a height (H) of 3 cm. Its uppermost or face surface (2) is provided with a rib formation (3), which extends centrally over the complete surface. The lowermost or second face surface (4) is provided with a groove (5) which likewise extends centrally over the complete surface. Preferably the groove and the rib are complementarily formed and overlap. They have an arc-shaped cross-section profile. The groove is so dimensioned that in the usage state of the tampon introduced into the vagina it can accommodate the cervix.
