The device has a spiral spring (1) of steel or another suitable material which drives a current generator or dynamo (3) via a matching reduction gear (2). The electrical power generated by the dynamo is matched to the current/voltage requirements of the powered device via an electronic regulator circuit (4). The spiral spring can be tensioned by hand or by a tensioning device supplied with solar or mains power. When required the energy stored in the spring can be converted into electrical energy and fed to the external load.
