<p>A system and method for engaging a pair of rotating members (SW) such as skate wheels (SW) on in-line roller skates (RS) and may be used to apply braking forces to the rotating members (SW). An engaging mechanism simultaneously engages a pair of spaced apart rotating members (SW) and includes an engaging assembly (11) for engaging the rotating members (SW), mounting means (12) for mounting the engaging assembly (11) adjacent the rotating members (SW), and actuation means (14) for causing the engaging assembly (11) to engage the peripheries (SWP) of the rotating members (SW). A temperature control system (16) for the cooling of heated rotating members (SW) such as brake drums (20, BD) and disc brakes (DBM) for various systems including in-line roller skates (RS). The temperature control system (16) cools a rotating member (SW) with a heat transfer fluid such as air. It includes a porous media (121) operatively associated with the rotating member (SW) for the flow of the heat transfer therethrough; and flow directing means (120) for directing a flow of the heat transfer fluid through the porous media (121) to transfer heat from the rotating members (SW) to the heat transfer fluid thereby cooling the rotating member (SW).</p> |
