<p>A display device comprising a two-dimensional array in a matrix of display elements that are electrically driven to change the displaying mode of one pixel; and a controller for changing the display mode of the display elements. Dividing modes for obtaining 22n blocks by dividing the two-dimensional array into 2n blocks in both the longitudinal and transversal directions are defined and each dividing mode is indicated by a dividing level (n). Four blocks obtained in the dividing mode indicated by n=1 are indicated by using two-bit addresses '00', '01', '10' and '11' and 22i blocks obtained in the dividing mode n=i are indicated by the address indicating 22(i-1) blocks obtained in the dividing mode indicated by n=(i-1) postfixed with one of the two-bit addresses '00', '01', '10', and '11'. When the controller receives a display signal composed of a dividing level, address, and data, the controller changes the display elements belonging to the block indicated by the address among a plurality of blocks obtained when the array is divided in the dividing mode indicated by the dividing level to the displaying mode indicated by the data.</p> |
