Metallic filter element production for hot gases

Manufacture of metallic filter elements, which may have various profiles, for cleaning hot gases comprises: (a) using a steel wire mesh, having gaps between 0.5 and 1.0 mm to determines the profile; (b) cleaning and degreasing the mesh; (c) spraying a base layer of molybdenum onto the mesh; and (d) melting one or more metals in an arc at a voltage at least 4 V, preferably 6 V, above the characteristic value for the metals, to combine them into a "pseudo-alloy", to be sprayed onto the prepared mesh to a thickness between 0.5 and 1 mm. This results in a porous structure with gaps and capillaries between 2 mu m and 10 mu m.
