The device to open the airbag flask of gas under pressure that is closed with the membrane (2) uses the direct or indirect application of the energy from a current pulse provided by an induction coil of an eddy current accelerator to open the membrane. The coil is at the rim of the membrane and with a current pulse in its primary, an extremely high secondary current is induced in the membrane which partly melts it and partly accelerates it. There is a retaining ring in front of the coil which catches the force arising from the current pulse. The membrane is in the transition region between the neck of the flask to the body of the flask.
