The invention relates to a self-clamping spanner which has a fixed jaw (2) connected to a handle (1), and a pivotable jaw (3) mounted on said fixed jaw. A pressure spring (5) held in a spring bore (6) of the handle (1) presses on the rear side (3b) of the pivotable jaw (3) in order to push said jaw into the gripping position thereof. When the spanner is open, the compression spring (5) or a pressure member (7) connected thereto locks on a locking shoulder (9) on the pivotable jaw (3) to keep said jaw open.
