The turnstile allows customers to pass through in one direction only, having one or more swing arms on a support turning on a vertical axis. One section (9) of the arm (4) curves in the travel direction, while the other (8), fixed to the support (6), is straight. the first section can curve to a constant radius, or can be in portions curving to different radii, and the arm can be tubular, of plastics, or a profiled extrusion.
