An electric shaver comprising a stator with an electromagnetic coil, at least one movable element of a permanent magnet or magnetic material, an electromagnetic linear actuator for reciprocating the movable element, and at least first and second blade members which cooperate to cut hair, the first blade member being formed of a cutter head connected to the movable element. The cutter head is placed on an extension of the movement direction of the movable element. The first blade member reciprocates in the same direction as that of the movable element. When the first blade member is formed of one movable blade, the second blade member is a stationary blade or a movable blade, or two second blade members may be provided, one is a stationary blade and the other a movable blade.
