The method involves forming weakening lines in the surface of a metal plate by deforming the plate to a predetermined depth to produce a thinned section along the line to be weakened. The plate is bent along the weakening line. The operation is performed by relative displacement between the plate and a deforming tool moving along the line and applying a force sufficient to deform the plate, acting transverse to the plate surface. A device carries out the method of machining a weakening line on a metal plate and has a support frame for the metal plate, and a pair of freely rotatable machining rollers interacting on either side of the plate. The plate is movable relative to its rollers and their holders. A punch press or nibbling machine has a support frame for carrying a plate and a reciprocating punch, adjustable to control the depth of the punch penetration into the metal. |
