PRINTING SYSTEM

A printing system comprising printers (17, 18a, 18b, 19), print servers (15, 16) for controlling the printers, and terminals (11, 12, 13) for requiring the printers to print document data. The terminal includes an application program for preparing the document to be printed. The document prepared by the application program is converted to a printing job of a standard document format independent of printer models, i.e., a format compatible in the whole printing system. This printing job is transferred from the terminal to the print server. The print server converts the printing job of the standard document format to a printing job corresponding to the selected printer before printing. The print server preserves the printing job of the standard document format for a predetermined period so that it can be used to resume printing after a trouble of the printer or an interrupt by other printing jobs.
