The ram comprises a knife-edged ring cylinder and pressure pad cylinder which are moved to and fro by a hydraulically driven plunger (1) via a cam or articulated lever drive mechanism. The plunger is joined to the cross bar (2) by at least two columns (3) which penetrate the stand (4) in an upward direction. The top of the columns has two ledges (3.2). A piston (3.1) is enclosed in a cylinder housing (5) integrated in the stand. A cylinder piston unit (B) consists of a cylinder housing (6) and annular piston (7) and cylinder chamber (6.1). The cylinder housings are connected by pipes (27,27.1) to a source of pressure medium (40), with circulating valve (26). One or more knife-edged ring cylinders (C) are positioned on the cross-bar. One or more support cylinders (E) are integrated in the piston (13). The stand has one or more pressure pad cylinders (D). One or more support cylinders (F) are integrated in the piston (35).
