Process for accessing data on computer CD-ROM drive

The method involves carrying out a command sent from a host computer, to a CD-ROM drive, to access data on the CD contained in the drive. Data on the CD is in the form of addressable blocks. The access process involves an initial production of an execution queue for storage of the CD block addresses, to be accessed by the host computer commands. Also created is a holding queue for storage of the CD addresses to be accessed by the next command, and a free queue for storage of the addresses which are continuously accessed by the computer commands. A sequential arrangement of the block addresses in the execution and holding queues is organised, together with a new arrangement of the execution queue, by a sequential arrangement of the addresses in both it and the holding queue. Access of the data is then arranged, according to the newly arranged execution queue.
