The invention provides a process for the selective separation of an acid selected from the group consisting of phytic acid, lactic acid, and mixtures thereof, from corn steep liquor containing the same, comprising combining the liquor with a solvent comprising at least one C1-C8 alkanol, whereby phase separation of at least a major portion of the desired acid from the liquor is achieved.
