This gas engine with pre-combustion chambers (2) effectively uses ejection energy of flames and air-fuel mixtures ejected from the pre-combustion chambers (2) into main combustion chambers (1) to shorten the combustion duration and thereby enhance performance. Installed in the cylinder head (7) at the central part of the cylinders (8) are pre-combustion chamber structures (3) that form pre-combustion chambers (2). Combustion chamber structures (10) are formed with communication ports (6) that communicate the pre-combustion chambers (2) with the main combustion chambers (1). Control valves (4) are provided to open and close the communication ports (6). The communication ports (6) comprise main communication ports (13) and sub-communication ports (21) formed around the main communication ports (13). The sub-communication ports (21) are formed in the combustion chamber structures (10) so that they extend radially toward the cylinders (8) periphery. <IMAGE>
