Novel polycylic aminopyridine compounds as inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase, process for their preparation and utilization thereof. The polycylic aminopyridine compounds have formula (I) wherein the various radicals have the meanings indicated in the description of the invention. The process for the preparation of said compounds is characterized in that ketones having general formula (II) are caused to react with aminonitriles having general formula (III), and, if necessary, the compounds of formula (I) are alkylated, aralkylated or acylated, or the corresponding ketonic precursor is reduced. The compounds having the general formula (I) are specially appropriate for the preparation of medicaments useful against memory troubles, such as senile dementia or the Alzheimer disease.
