The invention relates to a process for the preparation of a solid composite having properties typical of an ornamental stone or rock which corresponds to formula I, in which A is fine sand, C cement/CI plaster, H is water and F iron oxides, normally described as rust, which comprises: a) the addition of A, C or CI and H to obtain composite X or XI (depending upon whether C or CI was used), b) placing the composite in moulds (R), c) subjecting the composite to an artificial scraping process using suitable instruments (e.g. trowels) or, if CI was used, subjecting composite XI to a process of dry sandblasting so that the sands are exposed (a rough appearance in relief) and loose material is removed (R1), d) subjecting the X/XI composite to a complete drying process (R2), e) application of F, obtained in aqueous medium from a process of corroding iron alloy or iron to X/XI (R3). <IMAGE>
