An elastic polymer foam sheet (2`) containing open cells (21, 22) and coated on one side with adhesive has a permanently tacky pressure-sensitive adhesive coating which penetrates into the foam to cover cell walls up to a certain depth. Cell openings remain intact even in the adhesive-coated sheet region and they also break up the adhesive coating into numerous small adhesive surfaces. Applying gentle pressure to the adhesive surface of the sheet against a substrate, e.g. an adhesive-free side of a corresponding material sheet, causes the sheet and substrate to bond together, yet the sheet can be removed again from the substrate without it becoming damaged. - Also claimed are (i) the preparation of the sheet by feeding foam material (2) and liquid adhesive into one side of a roll nip (8), then transporting the sheet with the adhesive-coated side face-up on a conveyor (13) through a drying oven (5) to remove solvent and then winding-up onto a roll (14) and (ii) the wind-up device used in this method, comprising a roller mounted on height-adjustable bearings (15, 16). - Preferably the sheet comprises an open cell polyurethane foam. |
