Disclosed is an apparatus and method for controling an elevator. The apparatus comprises a microcomputer(10), the first sensor(20), the second sensor(30), an alarm controller(40), a door controller(50) and a motor controller(60). The microcomputer(10) controls overall operation. The first sensor(20) senses whether open or close button is pressed by the user and sends the signal to the microcomputer(10). The second sensor(30) senses whether the door is closed or opened, and sends the signal to the microcomputer(10). The alarm controller(40) controls operation of the alarm(45) when the elevator suddenly stoped. Thereby, the elevator is driven more safely and efficiently.
