PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a producing method of super lightweight aggregate capable of stably obtaining a super lightweight aggregate having the specific gravity of <=0.8 in absolute dry condition and >=80kgf collapse strength. SOLUTION: The super lightweight aggregate is produced by drying the pellet, which is obtained by granulating a rhyolite based vitreous mineral, a foaming agent and a sodium silicate aq. solution, adjusting the particle size and firing. (1) The pellet consists of 100 pts.wt. ryholite based vitreous mineral having 10-40μm average particle diameter, 0.5-2.0 pts.wt. foaming agent and 15-30 pts.wt. adhesive material, (2) the pellet is dried to equivalent dry state, the pellet after firing has 5-15mm particle diameter and the bulk density of 1.5-2.3 and (4) the firing temp. is 900-1300 deg.C.
