The present invention relates to absorbent articles (20) such as sanitary napkins, panty liners, and incontinence pads that have side wrapping elements (50) for folding around the side edges of the wearer's undergarment on each lateral side of the article. The components are designed to automatically wrap the sides of a wearer's undergarments when the undergarments are pulled up by having zones of extensibility. Importantly the zones of extensibility (56) are spaced at an optimum lateral distance for improved comfort independent of the wearer's type of undergarments.
