The device has a frame (2) which encloses the opening of the fireplace. A shield (3) slides vertically in straight guide rails (4,5) which are inclined to the vertical. Thus the shield comes to bear against the frame only at the end of the shutting movement. There can be a rail at each side of the opening, and there can be a sealing strip on the shield or frame extending all the way round the periphery. The shield can work in extension rails (5) which in turn work in main rail sections, and it can be attached via a rope (10) or chain to a counterweight (11). |
