PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a cross-linked copolymer contg. no vacuole by subjecting a haloalkylstyrene contg. a specified amt. of hydroxystyrene or a hydroxyalkylstyrene as an impurity and a cross-linker to water-base suspension polymn. SOLUTION: A monovinyl monomer represented by formula II (wherein B is a 0-6C linear, branched, or cyclic alkylene group; and X is halogen) contg. less than 1wt.% monovinyl monomer represented by formula I (wherein A is a 0-6C linear, branched, or cyclic alkylene group) is subjected to suspension polymn. together with a cross-linking polyvinyl monomer having at least two double bonds in a water-base medium in the presence of a polymn. initiator to give a cross-linked copolymer. A pref. raw material is a haloalkylstyrene having a 1-6C haloalkyl group, esp. pref. chlorobutylstyrene. An anion exchange resin with high physical strengths and clarity can be obtd. by reacting the cross-linked copolymer with an alkylamine by a known method. |
