PURPOSE:To improve the reaction efficiency of methanol reformation process by treating methanol or a mixture of methanol and water with a catalyst produced by spray-coating Ni oxide to a metal or alloy material and reducing the product. CONSTITUTION:Fe, Cu, Al, Zn, Co, Ni or their alloy is used as a metallic material for a base and Ni oxide is spray-coated to the surface of the base by plasma spraying, etc., to obtain a catalyst. The catalyst is filled in a reactor made of e.g. quartz and reduced with a gas (N2 balance) containing 3-100% of H2 at 200-350 deg.C. The catalyst temperature is adjusted to 200-700 deg.C and methanol or a mixture of 1mol of methanol and <=10mol of water is supplied to the reactor at a prescribed flow rate under a reaction pressure of 0-30kg/cm<2>G to obtain a gas containing >=50% of H2, <=35% of CO and <=25% of CO2 in high conversion. |
