PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject derivative having high germicidal and insecticidal effects in an industrially advantageous way by reaction of a specific furan-3- carboxylic ester with an aromatic amine in the presence of a t-alkoxy alkali metal salt as catalyst. SOLUTION: This furan-3-carboxyamide derivative of formula III having high germicidal and insecticidal effects is obtained by reaction of a furan-3- carboxylic ester of formula I (R<1> to R<3> are each H, a 1-6C alkyl or 3-6C cycloalkyl; R<4> is a 1-4C alkyl) (e.g. 2,5-dimethyl-3-furancarboxylic ethyl ester) with an aromatic amine of formula II (R<5> and R<6> are each H, a 1-6C alkyl, 3-6C cycloalkyl, 1-4C alkoxy, halogen or nitro) (e.g. p-methoxyaniline) in an organic solvent such as toluene in the presence of a t-alkoxy alkali metal salt as catalyst (e.g. t-butoxypotassium). |
