The actuator has a base frame (4) with a hinge (6) along one of its edges for the hood (2) to pivot around an axis (A5). The actuator has a section (8) pivoted around an axis (A1) on the frame and a pair of actuating cylinders (10,12). The actuator hinge section can be moved by a first cylinder (10) which is articulated around an axis (A2) on the frame and around a further axis (A3) on the pivoted section. The pivoted section supports another cylinder (12) which is articulated around an axis on the hood.
