Airbag system for motor vehicle

The arrangement includes an airbag which is inflated with gas by a filling arrangement in response to a sensor activation, and which is pushed into a passenger space of the motor vehicle when inflating. The gas quantity, delivered per unit time by the filling arrangement (1) into the airbag (2), is controlled so as to provide unhindered advance of the airbag into the passenger space (3). The delivered gas quantity is proportional to a probed length of the unhindered advance of the airbag, whereby the length is scanned at an initial phase of the filling process.
